 Recently, Icefrog released two new heroes, to the roster of DotA heroes. Two heroes who I, on their first encounter, thought fondly of. I was happy-chatting compliments like “I like the ganking aspect of Tuskarr :D” and “Phoenix has a unique set of skills :D”, but after coping with these two heroes for a few games, I realized how retarded specifically one of these heroes were. The phoenix. His fucking laser is EVERYWHERE! And if you finally manage to steer around it, and get on his side, *WHOOSH!* BAM! And he flies 1300 units away. “Ah well, okay, I guess his stuff is now on cooldown” you tell yourself as your semi-fed DK steers around the laser again and gets on the side of the overgrown parrot. But even THEN, he has a spell that AOE heals him AND his allies, OR nukes an enemy, AND EVEN THEN! He’s got an AoE ulti that puts EVERY other AoE ulti to shame. “Oh, it only takes 9 hits to shoot the sun bubble down!”. 9 HITS?!? He regs to full health for Christ sake, while burning away any other enemy, and even stunning the few that were brave enough to pick the fight. Skeleton King has a similar ulti, it revives him with full mana and HP, but he doesn’t fucking get the chance to hurt his enemies in the process, does he? So anyway, people started realizing this, at least on DotALicious, so a rather new DotA phenomenon occurred when people picked him. Bad sportsmanship. It was considered genuine bad sportsmanship to pick this hero, as it ‘game ruined’. And if the team with the phoenix were to win, no one would acknowledge it, as “dey had teh fukken fireburd”. Despite that the players probably crossed the line as what goes to the consequence of breaking this holy codec. It’s something it’d like to see more of. Recognition of good DotA and bad DotA. A well played chen, with low kills and deaths, but sky high assists, and constant warding, is FAR more impressive, than a fed carry. | |||||||||||||||||||

PUSH - Illogic balance concepts Archive (Originally posted on MyMYM 13/10/09)  I know it's necessary, but sometimes, I just hate how logical game play has to make room for balance issues. For instance, Yunero. His Omnislash makes him enter a transcendence state where he moves at lightning speed, making him capable of landing several hits before his opponents are able to block, or retaliate. While in this state, one would presume that the Juggernaught knows what he's doing, (or it's an odd coincidence that every random slash he swings with his eyes closed hits a target), and thus, would be able to control WHAT to swing at... yet... he chooses to initially hit the vulnerable but HIGHLY EFFICIENT WHEN ALIVE: SHADOW PRIEST, ONCE! and then; continues to unleash his fucking fury of omnislashes ON A GOD DAMN CROSSBOW WEILDING GNOLL WITH 370HP AND NO FUCKING PURPOSE IN THE GAME. He was sleeping for fuck! THE GNOLL WAS SLEEPING, YET HE WAS THE PREFERED TARGET FOR YOUR ULTI, JUGGER? You might be strong and fast, Yunero, but FUCK ME, you're stupid. I guess what I'm trying to say is, I love balanced game play, I really do, and some of the ways around this is rather creative, but sometimes, it really makes the entire concept of a skill illogic, and when this happens, a part of me dies inside, lying flat on the ground, with a tiny fist raised towards the sky crying: "Why...!" | |||||||||||||||||||

I apologize for my recent absence. I have no logical explanation to this; it must have been caused by a shift in time and space as we know it, stretching the usual 2 days per blog submission to 6 months. I recently received a beta key to Starcraft 2, which, ever since, has consumed my spare time. So much in fact, that my chair pillow has become a perfect mould of my ass. I am of course, thrilled that it’s so great, but it also bothers me. It bothers me when games are not illogic for the sake of balance, or stupid in some ways. But this... Starcraft 2... It all makes sense.. It’s like the Dungeon and Dragons mentality where physic laws exist as to what’s possible and what’s not. For instance, 2 D&D players can easily agree that a mage summoning a fireball from his bare fucking hands is realistic, but when the little sister suggests that her horse companion can talk, everyone can agree that it’s stupid and unrealistic. I did find one illogical thing though. I have the Starcraft 2 Stalker wallpaper on my background, and after looking at it for a few days, I noticed it’s wearing a little piece of cloth over it’s mouth, which immediately raises a question: Why is it wearing a little piece of cloth over it's mouth?  Even the in-game 3D model has the mask.  Is it standard equipment for the stalker outfit? I realize that stalkers are supposed to be quiet stealthy assassin-like protoss units, but I don’t see the cloth-thing doing the job. If a stalker was caught on security cam robbing a liquor store, I doubt the cloth would do a difference during witness recognizing... The stalker being 10 feet with 4 legs and a laser attached to it’s arms and all.. | |||||||||||||||||||

 I'm sorry about my recent absence, but I have had the most odd week ever. Anyway, I'm back and ready to resume blogging. I'm sure that most DotA players like myself has once played Starcraft, and it occurred to me today how stupid the vulture is. I'm not pro or gosu at Starcraft, so I'm sure there's someone out there who disagrees with me, but when I played Melee back in the days (about 8 years ago) the vulture was RIDUCLOUSELY stupid. Everything about the vulture was stupid. The projectile for one is in its essence retarded. Imagine how the cannon on that vehicle look like, when it's shooting green barrels the size of zerglings. Exploding green barrels. oooo. If you've played games with the Vulture, you've probably tried massing units and having them go down a ledge. When this happens, the vulture enters a cycle of actions, which would make a goldfish seem intelligent. If the ledge is blocked, the vulture will start a spasm like animation, where it runs back and forth in circles, and this is when you start getting annoyed, flex the cheek muscles, perhaps even stand up in your chair, but you're about to make the biggest mistake in the game you possible could. You issue the "move" action on the group of vultures again! OOOOH MY, YOU'RE FUCKED NOW! Because Vultures works differently from the rest of the units in the game, and you just fucked up their AI real good now. Vulture will think you were asking it to move everywhere simultaneously, so it will copy this command, and run EVERYWHERE but down the ledge. And from now on, whatever you do only makes it worse, so you're better off leaving the computer for a second, stick your head down the toilet, and scream so everyone connected to the sewer system will understand your frustration.  To me, DotA has always been an odd game. Many of the peculiar aspects are game-made, and even though they can be a great reason to turn the frown upside down, and then down again (very down) to frown like you have never frowned before, then it's still nothing compared to player-made autism. To me, it's an enigma. I simply don't understand how the people in the real world usually seems reasonable and understanding, while the SAME people INSIDE the game can be of such dimensions of dim-wittedness that you truly wish all of them appeared in all 5 SAW movies simultaneously. Public players can say these things. The only thing they're good at. It can be a little remark, something they say that truly sums up their existence, and how little they know about the game of DotA, but I must warn you. DON'T, and I mean NEVER respond to these comments. If you do they will read your response, and inside their simple yet highly complex brains, they will decipher the letters into their own reality, which ALWAYS FAVOURS THEM, and when they come out again as a response to you, they carry such stupidity and ignorance, that if reality had been WoW, you just gained 100% rage. AND WARRIORS NEEDS TO GET RID OF RAGE TO GET MORE. So, in case you were wondering about men multitasking, then I must share with you that it IS possible to break a window and a keyboard by using a window and a keyboard, tearing a phone book in half with your toes while googling contact information for the nick "SUPERPWNER123" TO GET YOUR WELL DESERVED REAL LIFE REVENGE. | |||||||||||||||||||
