While there is no Dota 2 and we are looking at a healthy delay for today's match, I figured it would be a good idea to put a few myths about the team's partying habits into perspective. Partying is a natural part of LAN events, since friends with the same passion come together, plus the aspect of winning money causes cheeriness almost every time. What makes me an objective judge? Im usually the last to leave the press booth, which means I see who is hanging out at the bar long after the games, plus I stay with the entire Moscow5 team in one large apartment this weekend (Yes I only sleep one room next to Vigoss). PGG lives Dota and he is LAN player. My first conversation with him happened at ASUS Spring last year. He seemingly appreciates when people make efforts to attend LANs. As I told him that I had paid for the trip to Kiev myself, we got along exceptionally well (ASUS Summer was the last LAN I paid for myself; shortly afterwards, we did better financially, hence can afford to cover the expenses of traveling coverage crew members). The flames that he occasionally types out during online matches dont actually display his actual character. There you just see that LAN Dota has a much higher status in his moral concept. What is true though is, that he doesn't care about what people, who he doesn't know, think about him and how he appears on photos and infront of the camera. ![]() M5 are very reserved this weekend. They rather stick among themselves instead of talking to other teams and they were always the first to go back to the hotel, after the matches were over. Not to convey the impression that they would immediately hit the sack in Christian manner; of course gamers stay up until 4-6 AM and a bit of alcohol was consumed in the apartment as well. Discussions however were analytical and mostly circled around Dota drafting and the next opponent. Im quite jealous of team editors, who get to spend so much time with players and, while being with them, learn a lot about the game. What can be said on a more general note is, whenever they do well, they tend to loosen up and whenever they have catching up to do (like to Na`Vi right now), they remain concentrated. Bl00dAngel however seems to have developed a natural resistance against alcohol. I gotta say, what he is taking in pure concentration is mind-blowing. Na´Vi are definitely the most relaxed team this weekend. As seen on the stage cameras, their mood is mostly excellent and everything seems to be going their way regardless of what they do. Their relationship to the CLG players is very friendly; especially Puppey and Pajkatt, who played together quite a bit in the past, joke together in every spare moment. Without exceptions, players of those two teams were sitting together at the bar late after the games and seemingly enjoyed their time. Yesterday Darer players joined in as well, who after the first day, spent most of the night studying replays. ![]() Undoubtedly, members of all teams will come together for the after party. Until then we have two more matches infront of us.

So I return. Some of you may noticed my absence caused by the final phase of my studies, as well as an illness that struck me out of the loop one month ago. The Dota sections are therefore managed by Kurtcos until further notice. I am still not in a position to return, a lot is uncertain in my life at the moment, but for the weekend, I agreed to go to Kiev to report from the StarLadder playoffs. Personally I feel I could not have wished for a more interesting pool of teams. Yes, Na`Vi, Darer and M5 are regularly seen competitors in Kiev, but recent occurrences that lead to the current lineups add an interesting drive to the upcoming matches. There would for example be ArtStyle. Once traded as irresistible mastermind that led Na`Vi to a triumph at the first International, the 23-year-old took an unexpected route and almost became an antihero after falling from grace at several of his former employers . Today he returns with a team whose other members seem eager to settle a scores with fellow competitors as well. Not only would a playoff-victory against arch rival Na`Vi leave a bittersweet buckle on the Ukrainians' shimmering armor, Darer surely added Moscow5 to their hitlist as well. After all it was Pgg and his entourage that denied NS, G, kyky, kliff and Santa (back then the Dota 2 squad of M5) an epic clash against Na`Vi in the grand final of the Dota 2 Star Championship, after beating them out of the winner bracket last December. A disappointing third place alongside other factors led to a termination of contracts and ultimately let The Retry - after a short intermezzo in DTS - take their places in Moscow5. Wether Darer will have their payback time this weekend is the most thrilling question to me. Next to the entangled history that the three local contenders share, the showing of CLG almost falls into decline. Unjustifiably though, as the Swedes showed high quality Dota throughout the past months and may evolve to the big story this weekend, should the players maintain their composure, adapt to the local environment and suppress stage fright, from where v1lat will unleash his battlecries onto the viewing audience. For Na`Vi it will be a challenge like any other. No team won more Dota 2 matches in 2012 than the Ukrainians who currently present themselves in exorbitant shape. A dangerous position to be in however, that can lead to boastfulness. Na`Vi must aim to remain concentrated and focus on their experience and team chemistry. Otherwise, losses against a pumped Darer or M5 - as experienced at D2SC - come fast enough. Moscow5 have the least to lose going into the playoffs. Participating in a Kiev-event has become routine, nobody expects a triumph and any placing that beats Darer or Na`Vi is considered satisfying . A lot will depend on their shape at the particular match days and wether the team can get into the same berserk mode that allowed them to beat the ne plus ultra in Dota 2, Na`Vi at D2SC last year. Due to the short-term planning of the trip, I didn't want to revoke the right to take my camera, which I borrowed to a friend some time ago. This means that there will be no photos today. I will get a camera tomorrow from the Arena however and will start shooting and recording from there. You will hear more from me soon, until then good night.

I sat in front of a camera for the first time ever, answering a few questions from v1lat. The Dota 2 Star Championship has been one of the best organized events this year, offering a very convenient schedule with a lot of broadcasted matches. Youtube link

It was a mild summer night when I departed towards Kiev today, entering the most thrilling and probably also exhausting GosuGamers days, since I started working for the website. I will travel to my third ASUS, directly followed by a seven-day stay for Gamescom in Cologne. With Na`Vi and Virus, we have two teams present, who will also attend The International, hence are not able to prepare optimally for either tournament. I arrived around 10:30 CET at the venue and promptly found Dendi, playing a training match with 4GL, whose fifth player Mitch will only be able to arrive shortly before the tournament starts. The atmosphere at the venue was rather casual at this early hour; opponent for the friendly encounter was Kazakh team NEXT, who together with Tenax seemed eager to make their time worth wile and trained as much as possible. Same by the way counts for the mentioned 4GL and the Hard Team, who according to v1lat spent the whole night playing DotA. I got into talking with Dendi and his experiences in the Dota 2 beta, dominated our conversation. "We are certainly not gonna win", he said regarding ASUS. Too casually have the preperations for the tournament been, too much time went into playing Dota 2, which he would rather play right now as well. "The event is not coming at the right time for us, but if we win, we are gonna be even more motivated!" Shortly after lunch time, PGG and his companions entered the venue and started to play a few matches as well, followed by Virus who are currently sitting right behind me and prepare for tomorrow. Contrary to Na`Vi, Dota 2 doesnt seem to be that big of a factor to them; all eyes are on DotA. Virus, being the only western European team to attend the last ASUS tournament, must have sent a convincing message to the tournament hosts at Gamescom, who I believe only chose the Frenchmen, because of their reliability and their top-four placing. While talking with v1lat earlier today and myself bringing up the question, wether NE have already arrived, he let me know that the team land in Kiev at around midnight CET, which is 1am local time. Given that, we can be sure that the Danes won't have an easy time tomorrow, being left with no chance to adopt to the local environment. The team has LAN experience (DSRack) and the regular boot camps can very well be enough to compete tomorrow. NEXT.kz plus the Goblin team are ready to attack however and turn this group, together with group B into the most interesting ones to follow. Despite the lack of practice, I believe Na`Vi is strong enough pass the first challenge as winner. Group C also seems to be heavily favouring Virus and the Hard Team. As Im finishing this blog, Puppey and XBOCT passed by me. As I asked them wether they will be training today, they responded "We play Dota 2 at our private place, behind the stage". Whenever I talked to a Na`Vi player today it seemed clearly visible, that the $1.000.000 is in their minds. The video- and waaagh tv streams will enlighten the situation tomorrow. Who do you see in the lead?

former GoD member Diadora hosted a small pokerclub, via PokerStars' new 'home game' section, where we play for small amounts of real money and, should we get more people, host tournaments. The atmosphere is rather chilled, the last limits we played was $0,02/$0,05 no limit holdem. If you want to join send in your application, by entering ID: 468145 pw: callingstation in the home section (outer right top tab in the navigation bar) of your pokerstars client.
