Today I am happy to publish the second edition of a review of the last week’s occurrences. And hell yeah, this has been a week. In this wrap-up you’ll read about MYM down to three, Blight.int changing sponsors and my personal RotW.
A new star-studded team arised As guessed in the last review, the whole incident were MiseRy, Miracle and Ducky played a game with Angel and MiGGel wearing the MYM clantag, cleared up this week. Officially announced by Ducky at Gosugamers.net, EnotHOME added MiGGel and Angel to their roster, while they renamed the team to DDT (Ducky’s Dream Team). Epic logo! I am really looking forward to see these guys performing (first impressions against TR here and MCiTY here). Since it’s hard to tell by seeing only one game, it seems that Angel is taking a ganking role in some games now.
Good luck guys! Besides I hope that MYM will find replacement and be on the top again very soon.
Singaporean leaving spree
Not only MYM lost players last week. XtC, the very well known Singaporean team announced four of the six players leave the team for real-life issues. Since when is real-life more important than gaming? Hope to see the team back on track very soon.
But wait: Why not joining up with the guys from Aeon.CGC? ChuaN, known for his epic Shadow Fiend and Storm skills, left the team. In an interview with spotgamers.com he talks about the reasons and DotA itself, stating that DotA became more or less a farming game. Didn’t he play the current version? I mean sure it’s not 6.48b, but I see more and more ganks and action-based matches than boring farming games.
Crazy American shouting
Here some advertisement for our new shoutcaster: Madmortigan is not only doing casts, but also providing livestreams of high-ranked matches. With that, you are able to watch a game via webbrowser and additionally enjoy his voice! I really recommend you to watch his casts; Gosugamers will announce his next events soon.
Skilled Editing
Lots of DotA videos are done every week; most just pass by and get a couple of hits. But there are a few exceptions, videos which stay in our mind for ever. The Slahser movies are of that kind; and also the new movie from Tews. His name is more or less unknown to the DotA community, but this will change very soon: his movie, called Tews.DotAlism, features some of the best editing skills ever shown in community videos. I really recommend you to watch the video in at least 480p to see all the editing skills.
There’s another movie being published this week, which really got my attention. It features a couple of very impressive scenes by (to me) mostly unknown players, edited with high-quality visuals. Enjoy!
Asian Nicknames and forum support There’s one thread which made me laugh a lot last week. I was not able to confirm the statements there, but the user blure stated that for example the nickname of the Chinese player 830 means “8 GAYS on a Mitsubishi Motorcycle”. This can’t be true. If someone can send me a link to confirm that, I would really appreciate that.
Another thread which should be pointed out is the approach of Slickdragon to create a better logo by the community for the Weekly Review. The idea is very good, but the execution or let’s say, the “output” isn’t that useful. If you are still interested to create a logo, just send in a PM.
Strength vs. Strength…
… or Sandking/Leoric vs. Sven/Kunkka. This week’s Replay of the Week features the Peruvian clan LAB against an allstars European/US lineup consisting of Loda, Merlini, DeMoN, Kapz and Fear. One of the most entertaining replays in the last couple of weeks with back and forth the whole game, not being able to say which one is going to win the clash. I recommend you to follow Sandking’s POV, participating in most of the entertaining scenes.
chuan was never near any level of epic. his sf and storm were subpar imo. asian numbers mean something. very few nicknames containing numbers are random. most mean things in china.
Yay! That's my thread up there!
Btw, zeyall, as far as I remember, the guy explained that 30 in chines sounded like "mitsubishi". I doubt it too, but it might as well be true. -_^
I mean sure it’s not 6.48b, but I see more and more ganks and action-based matches than boring farming games.
I heartily disagree. The metagame could still be pushed more towards ganking and pushing. I've noticed a lot of ganks that just end with people spreading out and farming rather than taking advantage of the numbers and pushing. Same crap happens in HoN. I want both S2 and Ice to do more major mechanical changes to push the metagame away from a farming spree.
