Carrier of the Year

Every team needs a farmer to carry their team to victory and especially in 2008 with the era of 52e, the carry was really important. The title for the best carry of the year 2008 is given to Kuro Salehi 'KuroKy' Takhasomi. This German joined Mousesports in the middle of 2008 and the next half a year Mouz.DotA was the team to beat and KuroKy was the one to outfarm, but only a few managed to do so.

Mouz won titles in ESL Major Series II, Dota Master 9, Farm4Fame #1 and Pride 11, all with Kuroky as an all-round carry player. Mouz has always been a top team but they never had as much success as the time with KuroKy as carry. It wouldn't be true if you said that this success is the work of KoruKy alone, but he is without doubt a major part of it.

As the second best carry we have Loda, who managed to carry for SK and making the team one of the most successful team both in the beginning of year in the days of 48b and in the beginning of the 52e-farming era.

Yamateh got 3rd as the carry of Kingsurf, who got second in ESWC. Yamateh has always been notorius for his farming abilities, but haven't manage to get as much success as Kuroky and Loda. The story of Light of Heaven, farmer of rush3d, is almost the same as Yamateh and as 5th we have Met's Danish farm boy Angel, who carry Met to a 4th and a 3rd place in Pride #10 and #11.

Supporter of the Year

Besides a carry, a team needs a supporter to make sure that you have the map-control. To do that Yaroslav 'NS' Kuznetcov has been voted as the best.

In the beginning of the year NS was playing in Virtus.Pro and was in the days of 48b one of the best team illustrated with a 3rd place in PriDe #9 and a victory at Asus Spring 2008. After Virtus.Pro disbanded, NS joined another Russian team, Rush3d and managed to win Asus Summer 2008 and Asus Autumn 2008.

At 2nd we have Maelk, who used to be a more or less carry for MYM, but with the addition of Fear, Maelk has played more gank and support and done it very well. MYM has also 3rd place Pusher, who was added to MYM after ESWC and have fed and warded MYM to victory ever since. Papaxiong is playing the support for Kingsurf and has been a really stable support for yamateh and the other stars of KingSurf giving him a 4th place. At fifth place we have Axypa, who supported WG to a 2nd place in both Pride #9 and Pride #10.

Ganker of the Year

To exploit the map control gained by your supporter and to win time for your carry, you need a ganker. The ganker is the one who needs to make action on the map and needs to be and the move all the time. As the best ganker in 2008 we have Ivan 'Vigoss' Shinkarev.

Like NS, vigoss was playing for Virtus.Pro in the beginning of the year and he was perhaps the most feared individual player in the first half of the year. Vigoss somehow manage to be all over the map all the time and at the same time get a lot of farm. After Virtus.Pro disbanded vigoss had a break, but returned at DTS Chatrix, but the version had changed and the ganker wasn't that important anymore and we did not see the same vigoss that we was used to in the good old Virtus.Pro days. But then 57b was introduced and vigoss joined KingSurf.International and he found his old level and once again we have vigoss as one of the worlds most feared gankers.

As runner-up we have Mania and Merlini, both MYM players. These two players manage to make action for MYM both in 48b, 52e and 57b. At 4th place we have the the former Mouz and now KS.int player Miracle and at a 5th place we have miGGel from the Danish team Met.

Captain of the Year

To win a game you need to have the right heroes and you need to make the right moves at the right times. That's the job of the captain and the title of the best Captain 2008 goes to Jacob 'Maelk' Toft-Andersen, who is probably one of the most well-known names within DotA.

Maelk managed to lead his team to the finals in almost every tournament the participated in. They started the year by winning Pride #9, but when 52e was introduced, MYM had a hard time. But Maelk led his team back on the winning track and with some wise changes in the team MYM was back. Maelk made the infamous Pitlord turtle strategy popular and even though a lot of people were complaining about the missing action in the games, Maelk manage to make result for the team and getting 2nd in ESL Major Series II, 2nd in Dota-Master 9 and winning the DreamHack Winter 2008.

At 2nd we have Loda, who has captained SK-gaming to great victories in Pride #10 and DreamHack Summer. Drayich has been voted 3rd as the former leader of Mouz. At 4th we have Jolie, the former leader of Virtus.Pro and now leader of KingSurf.International. Fifth place went to Yamateh from KingSurf.

And the best team in 2008 is Mousesports, who later changed organisation to KingSurf. The team was in the top in the begining of the year and even better in the last half of the year. Mouz won tournaments like ESL Major Series II, Dota Master 9, Farm4Fame #1 and Pride 11 and as Ks.int they got even stronger with the addition of some of the best players in the world. In the end of 2008, Ks.int was the most feared team in the world.

The only team who manage to threaten the winners in 2008 was MYM. Accustomed to ending second, MYM ended second in the GosuGamers voting as well.. At a third place we have SK-Gaming, who was the most dominating team in the middle of the year, but in the end of the year they had a hard time. KingSurf did also a really nice job this year and is rewarded with a 4th place and as the 5th best team this year we have Met.

well, I think the outcome was expected, Kuroky Imba. I would prefer more choice supporter Maelk NS. Vigoss with potm GG :D.Captain that is not deserved and Maelk KS.Int Clearly better team, and this year will be again. gl all

i don't get how Ks.Int can be put as team of the year, they haven't even been here for more then maybe 2 months, MYM/SK/RuSh3D/MeT/DTS been here the whole year.

Where is puppey for leader ? Dendi for ganker ? Why yamateh as a leader ? i am fine with the rest except for leader and ganker .

#20 is the perfect example of how utterly useless any polls that includes the opinion of the community is.

99% of the public can't give an unbiased opinion and aren't smart enough to pass judgment of anyone's skill, usability nor value to a team. That most can't even grasp the concept of '2008' - A whole year - just further ridicules any results based on public voting.

Puppey didn't lead a team in 2008, other than at Dreamhack Winter where he finished 3rd, and the team he played for in the earlier stages of 2008 wasn't at all successful. He may very well be the best leader now, in 2009, but that's still not what the poll is about and he hasn't really been around long enough to prove it either.

Yamateh is obviously listed because Ks managed to make some remarkable results throughout the year. So what if they weren't active in the last months of it. If anything, I'm surprised Yamateh wasn't voted #1 in most of the polls. He is truly a remarkable player, much better than both Loda and LightofHeaven at what he does and certainly on par with Kuroky.

Speaking of which, Kuroky didn't play competitively until July/August '08, not successfully anyways, yet he gets more votes than i.e. Loda, Yamateh, hyhy, Xali or AngeLofGod who all managed to do so much more for their teams during the year in terms of carrying. But yes, Kuroky does play amazing and yes, he probably has been the best the past few months.

That Kingsurf.int wins team of the year just empathizes how utterly ridiculous the poll is and how stupid the people voting are. SK were unbeatable for several months and managed to win both Dreamhack and ESWC Masters. Ks and Zenith took top-2 at the ESWC Grand Finals, Rush3d took everything in Russia, EHOME everything in Asia and MYM and Met took top-3 positions in everything they participated in. mouz/Ks.int won a few online tournaments with no real prestige in them and finished 3rd at two LAN tournaments. Ooh what a great team of 2008.

Sure, as a popularity contest its a very fitting poll, but it has nothing to do with who did the best in their field throughout 2008. I wish I could renounce the title as Captain of the Year as I never have been a big fan of popularity contests and Loda, Yamateh and whoever leads EHOME probably deserves it as much as I do.

Kuroky - a magician whose last hitting technique is flawless
NS - sheer Elegance in support
Maelk - inspirational head of MYM (even though i question his recent picks :P)
KS.intl - since they got the chemistry and roster stabled have been a dream to watch

I respect you as a player and a leader...a damn good one in fact! However i think you get a bit too emotional about DotA treds in general.

Maybe you don`t agree with some of the poll results but so what? Does it really change your opinion, your individualism and MYM in general? No it doesn't. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, that's human nature and rights..it cannot be changed.

I agree that much of the DotA community is diluted with bias but that isn't going to change. MYM has so many loyal supporters as seen by all the danish flags above and the comments, just as KS and Malaysians, SK and Sweeds etc.

My point is that you are far too respected in the DotA world to be tarnishing your name in petty squabbles with fans. Your role is only to inspire and awe us...not to be here fighting your points. THere is a place under heaven for everything but yours is not here.

I'm not trying to be disrespectful to you or anyone as a matter of fact so plz don`t get defensive as though this is some form of an attack on anyone. I'm just saying that the average joe's may be baffled in their own ignorance and maybe it's just better to let them be.

#21 plz keep ur biased opinions and stop being so harsh... This is about the communities opinions and not for professional players to vote. just because u all play together dosent mean that it is necessary for u to give those decisions on a vote that was purely for the community. im just asking u to respect the communities votes. This site works for the commuinity providing an insite for the proffesional games that are being held and show them what is going on..... so if ur opinion states that the chosen rankings are wrong then sorry but u should take it somewhere else... and anyway its because of the community being so big that DotA is so large and that is why u are able as a team to go on tours.. because of the community. So please try and make ur decisions more sceptical. i mean no disrecpect. im just stating my opinion as a member of the gosucrew..

Actually #29,Maelk is right,all votes here are based on something that happened in last 2 months,and no1 ever considered whole year....As some1 mentioned,Dendi is one of the best gankers and he has been playing great whole year,but ofc Vigoss have to win....I dont say that he isnt good but actually he i would prefer Dendi over Vigoss of we look at gankers of the year...And Mania ofc...

Agree with Maelk with the KuroKy thing: other players like AngeL deserved it...hyhy did a lot more on 2008 than KuroKy...although KuroKy is one of the bests right now

It's funny that Maelk criticizes the average intelligence of the users here at GG while managing to commit the age-old fallacy of pulling a percentage out of your own ass to emphasize a point.

Don't get me wrong, I mostly agree about his points. Ironic that his blatant generalization in his comment shows no signs of intelligence as well.

The choice selection and limitation is just wrong. So the poll wasn't even accurate in the 1st place, no offense.

Still, this is just a public vote, nothing special or anything accurate, crowds voting for their favorites, but not the real result.

of course we had a great expectation of Ks.Int above. Maelk is right when he says of the vote is not always fair, should have been done by people involved and by the players. Kuroky is a great player, perhaps more clear when mym results failed to show a few moments there was the time of 2008, Ks.Int 2009. And may be to H4nni where is it all? just nothing that anyone speaking great player I understand the revolt of Maelk and that much lack of Slahser in mym, most resign as captain I do not think it correct. All great players at different times since mym won everything, it's time to see other times too.

Well everybody knows that dude so chills and stop being such a dick. That is the difference between average community and profesional. This is just for fun so there is no need to flame people. If u ask who is the sexiest women in India compared to in USA they will give different opinion. Most of the dota community submitting to this poll dont do it that seriously. They just choose the player that in their opinion is playing good at the moment, heck they maybe just put their favourites, without applying it to the question correctly. I know some people that idolize Vigoss and vote for him eventough he rarely plays. And who puts Drayich on the list? He already quits Dota. Does it make the vote bias? Yes, but it doesnt matter. The purpose of this pool is to have fun nothing else. Most of the community dont put a lot of thought and dedication to answer the question in the fairest way possible. This is just for fun and they just put the answer (which is usually subjective) to whatever they like. So there is no need to call 'most' of them stupid. Im agree with you, but ur bad mannered and insulting response makes u even worser than the people u labelled 'stupid'

community vote is not objective almost by definition! it's closer to a popularity contest than anything else.
