Mother of Map Contests

[s]maps[/s]

Almost as soon as the Wgtour Map Contest is concluding, a new map contest is out at Teamliquid to please all those map makers out there. These contests have the side effect of making map makers gather together and produce awesome maps.

Teamliquid is holding the TL.Net Map Design Competition. We are unsure as to how they will choose the winners but it is being organized by TL.net member
South Korea uhjoo so we expect only the very best to triumph. He will also be interviewing the master of all map makers, South Korea Rose.of.Dream; "master" at least with regards to fame and personal map making achievements.

If they take my humble advice they should ask Rose.of.Dream to be part in the judging of the contest. They should also divide the competition in several categories. It is usually very difficult for an island map to win in such competitions for example, or for that matter a 3v3 map, a large map or small map to have any chance competing with non island 128.128 maps. But I am unsure as to how they will format the contest so maybe they are already planning many of these things.

Here is uhjoo's invitation to help him out with the interview.I would like to open up to members of the TL.net community possible questions to be asked to the map designer Rose.of.Dream. This is your chance for some input on getting questions answered about the map making process, imbalance issues, how maps make it into Pro-leagues, etc. So please post what you would like to see answered. pointed questions are welcomed, but please word it in as diplomatic way as possible, keeping in mind that we want the best possible interview without it getting ugly. You can help uhjoo out with your interview suggestions at » Rose.of.Dream Interview Suggestion.

For those of you who may not know who Rose.of.Dream is, you can check a most excellent post by Sweden Zoxxer called » Most balanced map, based on an article by Rose.of.Dream himself. He is the creator of Nostalgia and Namja Iyagi among many other quality world recognized maps.

You can go check an already very excellent set of maps submitted at » TL.Net Map Design Competition If you’re a map maker this is THE contest to show your steel. There is already some mean competition.

As for the recent WGTour contents the two finalists are Imbroglio and Broken tradition. A classic show down I must say. It is map creators versus temple lovers. It is creative audacity versus traditional balance. Both map names suit their maps perfectly. Imbroglio is Italian for "messy trouble". Broken tradition is I suppose a humorous attempt by a Temple fan to have broken away ever so minutely from tradition. I am biased however and I am very happy the map makers are winning their battle against the temple lovers but don't let that change your own mind.
