Blogs \ StarCraft 2 BETA Day 3
ReiKo @ 20th February 2010 11:53 (Read 4224 times).

Hey people, today I'll do quick cover of Terran units and their counters and post some pictures of Terran's. It's all about humanoids this time .

So, first of all - Marauders seems quite strong in combination with Marines. While Marines are somewhat meat that will take the damage and do some damage - Marauders support them. Hellions are Ex Equo of Vulture in all ways possible - Fast and good for harass killing workers anytime and anyday - but now the guy inside is not so angry ( "I dig", "Yea??!" - no more ). I really think Blizzard has missed the ball on this one - they need to polish voice acting and portraits of units a bit more to get them more feel and make them better. StarCraft 1 perfected this. As Protoss I would like to see more Protosshi's like units from aliens itself not robotic ones. It just get you in the mood that's all and it's vital part of the game. Marauder/Marine combo is pretty imbalanced at the moment. Zealots charge ability also in the passive way speeds up your zealots when they are attacking. Colossus is great against mass zealots. He destroys them. Also, I'm dissapointed about the ingame music. Terran is somewhat OK but faaaar from anything epic, Zerg is a laugh and Protoss one is just not right, it's bad. Sorry . It seems musical and voice acting part is lacking a bit right now.

Units glitch quite often, especially when you harass workers and etc.

So, Terran units and their counters:

Marine – Strong vs: Marauder, Immortal, Hydralisk
Weak vs: Siege Tank, Colossus

Marauder– Strong vs: Thor, Stalker, Roach
Weak vs: Marine, Zealot, Zergling

Reaper– Strong vs: Hellion, Zealot, Zergling
Weak vs: Siege Tank, Stalker, Roach

Ghost – Strong vs: High Templar, Mutalisk
Weak vs: Banshee, Zealot, Zergling

Hellion – Strong vs: Zealot, Zergling
Weak vs: Thor, Stalker, Roach

Siege Tank – Strong vs: Marine, Hydralisk
Weak vs: Thor, Immortal, Zergling

Thor – Strong vs: Banshee, Stalker, Roach
Weak vs: Marine, Zealot, Zergling

Viking– Strong vs: Battlecruiser, Carrier
Weak vs: N/A

Banshee– Strong vs: N/A
Weak vs: Stalker, Hydralisk, Thor

Raven– Strong vs: Siege Tank, High Templar
Weak vs: N/A

Battlecruiser– Strong vs: Phoenix, Mutalisk
Weak vs: Viking, Void Ray, Corruptor

I'm sad there is no Academy - I would like to hear new, refubrished "roar" from it.

Yeeeeeeeeeehhhhhhhhh .

What would you say on Ghost being direct counter to Mutalisk? Say this in StarCraft 1 and someone would laugh at you . Sieged Tanks looks ugly. Something like first screens we seen of StarCraft 2 Alpha.

And yeah, I had some more mass on mass combats - it's just too crowded and everything goes too fast. You can't micro mass battles, only thing you can is spellcast. Also, I was trying to click on units often more them four times but it seems there is no additional voice acting for them at the moment. From Terran's, only "good" one is Siege Tank's redneck commander of tank. I'm dissapointed with "non-Russian" Battlecruiser. It really had that "something" (Engage, Take it slow etc.). Zealots also doesen't seem tough as they used to be. They are bit feminized now .

btw. I think voice acting for Terran's Thor is made by Arnold Schwarzenegger .

Nice post! :) One thing is sure and that is that Marauders owns my Roaches badly. Actually I feel that Terran generally owns Zerg quite easily since they can counter so much from the same building.

I hate the menus and heavy client but love the gameplay! Cheers!

I am disapointed about musics. Downloaded them in winamp. Voice acting seems decent. Btw have you tried to click your units to make them angry?

#3 Yes, I wrote about that - they don't tell anything. Maybe because it's beta.

Oh ok. People should remember that it's just beta. Blizzard still got a lot of time to make starcraft 2 perfect.

So you want to implant voice acting from sc 1 to sc2?...

I said it once, and will say it again, not many people seem to understand that "2".

Where did you read that I want "to implant voice acting from sc 1 to sc2?..."

Implant .

but now the guy inside is not so angry ( "I dig", "Yea??!" - no more ).<<<< I guess that's why this is a blog.
StarCraft 1 perfected this.<<<<< Not to mention this is quite a ridiculous statement in every sense. It also shows your bias.
As Protoss I would like to see more Protosshi's like units from aliens itself not robotic ones. It just get you in the mood that's all and it's vital part of the game<<<< Protosshi...

I'm sad there is no Academy - I would like to hear new, refubrished "roar" from it.<<<< Why would there be? this isn't sc1. Ya, quite a "roar" it was...

I'm dissapointed with "non-Russian" Battlecruiser. It really had that "something" (Engage, Take it slow etc.). <<<< That "perfect" VA I suppose... LOL.

Let me know if you need a lesson or two in linguistics to understand the reason I used the verb to implant.

Where did you read that I want "to implant voice acting from sc 1 to sc2?..." - Answer?

Slow down a bit man, I don't want you to say something nasty. Take care and enjoy blogs - I really enjoy the beta. If you don't - no need to read.

Bye .

btw. You know what's "implant" do you? . You should have used "implementation" (of like something).

OK, I gotta ask, since my main concern is actually rock-paper-scissors.

Does the game function that way or not? I mean, in SC: BW you could pretty much counter most units with most units (more or less).
Does SC2 have some specific units you MUST use for counters so far, or is it as open-minded as BW is?

Also, you mentioned in previous blog that you had problems with MBS adding building to unit group. Does that still happen or was it just during your adapting to new game system?

Oh yeah, just one more question. You also mentioned problems with units surrounding enemy on their own. Is it avoidable by selecting them on another hotkey or do they do that automatically?

I know this is a lot of question, but so far, your "review" of the game seems to be most on the neutral side, while others praise the game, you point to some of the flaws, and since I don't have the pleasure of playing beta, maybe I can find answers to some questions from you :)

Great blogs so far.

No I meant implant as in you'd like sc2 VA to be the sc1's VA but "new and refurbished". Considering you're doing the blog to inform others, you're trying to implant them the belief the VA isn't the "perfection" that sc1 was. Want me to use synonyms? Instill, inculcate, infix?. Guess the second one is more appropriate for people not very similar with the use of connotative aspects of the written language.

"Something like that" is, perhaps, what you meant, not "of like something".

Cheers.

P.S: Say something nasty? Why would I? But... what exactly do you mean?

@suicider
Thanks.

Yes, but there are no "soft" counters too much. That means that pretty much every unit that isn't encountered with an hard counter demolishes other unit. Example is Marauders vs Stalkers.

I must say I'm adopting to MBS very well, it seems it's just because it's new game.

I don't know how can hotkey prevent them from autosurrond friend, but the thing is :

1. Enemy goes and attacks for example - Drones.
2. You gather them and press "A" for attack somewhere
3. They try to autosurround him.

Yes, I'm trying to be realistic no hyped up fan . That's the point after all?

@ Mephiztopheles

Blog is to express your own feelings. My feelings are that VA must be refubrished. And I'm not only one that thinks so.

The music is OK in a weird sort of way. I like the Protoss song, but the Terran seems to try to hard to sound like the original.

The voice acting for Terran and Zerg definitely needs work. The Zerg "Your drones are under attack" sounds horrible compared to the original.

Actually ghosts are very good vs mutalisks in SC1. Better than marine without stim pack, and very good range.

#22 Tray... 2 years ago
In SC1 ghosts was not used against mutalisks because of it high tech. Because you can get same time ghost or science vessel, not hard to choose. If ghosts could be made same as medics and firebats it can be good strategy against muta hit and run tactics. It shoots slow, but far and deals good damage.
