BigGods' undefeated run continues through the finals

BigGods win the Copa América regional qualifiers, defeating Infamous HotS and qualifying for the Summer Championship.

After their impressive performance in the Brazil Bracket, nobody can claim that they were an underdog going into the finals. That being said, any undefeated tournament run is no easy feat. This decisive 3-0 North Season Final against Infamous secures BigGods as one of the best teams in South America.

With a Sonya-Tassadar combo, Infamous looked to have set up a strong draft to take Game 1 on Infernal Shrines. However, BigGods followed with an unexpected Tychus pick which paved their way to their first victory. Putting a high priority on Greymane, BigGods proceeded to take games 2 and 3 in quick succession, ultimately raising the question of whether the hero is underused in the other regions.

Another peculiarity in BigGods’ drafting is their prioritisation of melee heroes. While the meta in Europe favours picking only one melee alongside your Tank, the Brazilians continued to draft very melee-focused compositions throughout all their games. In this sense, Game 1 featured two Tanks (E.T.C. / Anub’arak) alongside their Greymane and in Game 2 Sonya took the place of Anub’arak as a Bruiser pick. In the final game of the tournament, BigGods picked up an Illidan last-pick in place of a second Tank and decided to skip the role of a ranged Assassin altogether, using Tassadar as a second Support instead.

While congratulations are in order, the important question to ask now is: How well with this melee-heavy style play out against the other regions? In any event, we are excited to see more of BigGods and cannot wait to see their performance at the Summer Championship.
