Groups for ESL Cologne 2015 announced

ESL has just released the groups for the next major being ESL Cologne 2015. ESL has also announced the format that will be used.

Groups for the next Valve Counter-Strike: Global Offensive major have been announced by the Electronic Sport League. The $250,000 tournament will feature a total of sixteen teams from all around the globe with eight of those teams being Legends and the rest being Challengers who got to the tournament through quailifers unlike Legends who were directly invited.

ESL has also announced a change of the tournament format. The groups will consist of two Legends teams and two Challengers and will be played out in a double elimination bracket. At the end of the day one, the groups will be re-drawn with one team already moving on to the playoffs as the first seed and one team already being out.

The second group phase will also be a double elimination with only one team moving on at the end of the secondary group stage. A best-of-three, single elimination bracket will be used for the rest of the tournament including the Grand Final of the event.

The event is set to take place on August 20th-23rd in Cologne, Germany. It will be played in the brand new Lanxess Arena and will feature a $250,000 prize pool with a whopping $100,000 goin to the winning team.
