DreamHack Valencia 2017 - Ninjas in Pyjamas victorious

Ninjas in Pyjamas secure the tournament title after defeating fellow Swedes of Red Reserve with a 2-0 map score.

Sweden Ninjas in Pyjamas vs. Sweden Red Reserve - 2-0

de_Mirage - 16:10 (6:9, 10:1)

The underdogs of the match-up commenced the map on the defensive side of Mirage, where they demonstrated a stellar performance straight off the bat. Red Reserve secured the pistol round through exploiting their spectacular positioning, utterly catching Patrik "f0rest" Lindberg off guard. NiP force bought in the following round, however their equipment was met with a direct counter of a full stack of UMP45s. All of the ninjas were dispatched, furthering RR's score to a 2:0 lead. This continued all the way through to a 6:0 lead for the underdogs, with a particularly exciting round seen in the final of their winning streak, where Mikail "maikelele" Bill stuck a defuse through a smoke, despite a terrorist still being alive. With the help of Fredrik "FREDDyFROG" Gustafsson's cover, and a daring mentality, the ex-Ninja secured his team the sixth round. In round seven, NiP finally managed to accrue the first round of the half. This was shortly followed by an additional two, with the favourites looking at half the lead of their opponents at 3:6. Following these developments, neither team was able to particularly dominate, instead going toe to toe in the remaining rounds. The initial half concluded on a 6:9 not in favour of Red Reserve.

Having switched over to the CT side, however, Ninjas in Pyjamas started shining. Two initials rounds were secured, however the team had conceded a bomb plant in the pistol round of the half, allowing RR a decent buy in round eighteen. Only thanks to a 3K from Patrik "f0rest" Lindberg were the Ninjas able to pull through. The underdogs managed a bomb plant, that subsequently exploded, bolstering their economy to a degree. As it turned out in the end, this would be the only round the team would win over the course of the latter half, with the Ninjas utterly dominating on the defence. Eight rounds fell in the laps of Ninjas in Pyjamas, allowing for a near perfect half that concluded the map at 16:10.

de_Cache - 16:2 (13:2, 3:0)

The second, and final map of the series proved to be nothing short of a whitewash from Ninjas in Pyjamas. Seven consecutive rounds were accrued by the team, upping that of their opponents in the first map, who managed to amass one less by the end of their streak. Red Reserve landed their first round in round seven, leading to a 1:6 score line between the teams. Unfortunately for the team, the round victory was succeeded by further domination from NiP, as six rounds a further six round streak fell in favour of the ninjas, placing the team at a worrying 13:1 lead. The fifteenth round was accrued by Red Reserve, leading to a colossal deficit of 2:13 to come back from.

The second pistol round would decide it all, as the early advantage was crucial for RR to mount a comeback, all the while being the culling blow for NiP. Opting to keep it brief, Ninjas in Pyjamas managed to pull out the pistol round after a successful B site take yielded positive results. The veterans then proceeded to accrue the following two rounds, and as a consequence secured the Championship title, as well as the better part of the $100,000 prize pool.
