ESL One: New York 2017 - Qualifier details revealed

ESL have revealed details for the ESL One: New York 2017 qualification process.

This year ESL One will return to the Big Apple on September 14th - 17th. Eight teams, six invited and two qualified will compete in New York's first Intel Grand Slam event. According to the announcement, both European and North American qualifiers will have one spot for the event.

The qualification process for ESL One: New York 2017 will consist of two steps per region- the open and closed qualifiers. The winner of each open qualifier will join seven invited sides in the closed qualifier. Last year, the winners of closed qualifiers were Denmark Astralis in Europe and United States OpTic Gaming in North America, but both teams failed to make it out of the Swiss system group stage.

The qualifiers will be held one month prior to the commencement of the event. August 14th and 15th will witness the open qualifiers, followed by closed qualifiers on August 19th - 20th. ESL also revealed the formatting for ESL One: New York 2017 qualifiers., whereby both the open and closed qualifiers will have single elimination brackets. Understandably, matches will be best-of-one except for the finals in the open qualifiers. On the other hand, teams will play best-of-three matches in the closed qualifiers.

Currently four teams are confirmed for the tournament which are Poland Virtus.pro, CIS Natus Vincere, Europe FaZe Clan and Brazil SK Gaming. Two more teams will receive invited. The team list will be completed with two qualified teams joining them.
