Space Soldiers Dominant in GeForce Cup Victory

Turkish side Space Soldiers took home the GeForce  Cup without dropping a single map.

May has definitely been kind to Space Soldiers. After winning 4Gamers Masters earlier in the month, they bookended it with another tournament win in the GeForce Cup. Better yet, they went undefeated over the weekend, winning every game 2-0. They ended things in style with a 16-1 win on the final map of the tournament to underline their dominance.

In fact, the first game of the tournament set a sweet tone for the Turks. They defeated Bulgarian team Imperial 2-0 with a convincing 16-6 Cache before closing things out in a closer game on Overpass. Another comfortable-looking 2-0 win in the semi-final saw them breeze past a relatively unknown Swedish team by the name of Gatekeepers.

A Maikelele-fueled Red Reserve met them in the final but they were no match for Xantares and co. The talisman put up a +25 K/D ratio over the course of the final in a dominant performance.

The result is especially well-timed for the Turkish team. In a recent interview with HLTV, Maj3r discussed the fact that his team rarely gets invited to big tournaments, saying “we will do our best to prove that we deserve more chances!” Two tournament wins in a month surely puts pressure on event organisers to look more closely at the team who are currently ranked 30th in the world by HLTV.

Space Soldiers will get their next chance against stronger opposition in July, when they take part in ESL One Cologne. There they will meet a different calibre of competition against the likes of G2, Faze and SK Gaming.
