cs_summit - Day two recap

OpTic Gaming and Ninjas in Pyjamas retain their spots in the tournament, whilst SK Gaming and Gambit Esports elevate themselves to the winners' final.

United States OpTic Gaming vs. France Team EnVyUs - 2-1 (16:11, 14:16, 16:14)

de_Mirage - 16:11 (5:10, 11:1)

The first map of the day saw a strong sway from OpTic Gaming, where the roster managed to come back from an initial five round deficit to secure the win. It all kicked off with a successful pistol round from OpTic that was followed immediately by resurgence from the Frenchmen, as the team outperforms OpTic in round two, followed by a whopping four consecutive rounds to produce a 1:5 deficit for the local representatives. The remainder of the match saw a similarly dominant performance from Team EnVyUs, barring round twelve through fourteen and the, where OpTic closed out three consecutive rounds totally at 5:10. Contrary to the previous performance Team EnVyUs seemed utterly lost on the T side, scoring but a single digit over its entirety. A spotless defence from OpTic meant the team bagged the first map at a rather close 16:11.

de_Train - 14:16 (4:11, 10:5)

Another close encounter that nearly ended in a quick exit for the Frenchmen, as they were able to grind out the Americans albeit leaving it down to the very last round. It all kicked off will a strong start from EnVyUs on the T side, where the team scored the pistol round, following up with a further four, producing a 5:0 lead. The teams then exchange a round each, followed by a string of three consecutive victories for OpTic Gaming. To conclude the initial half the Frenchmen continue their domination, closing out the prior half with a 11:4 score. Resurgence is seen from the Americans as the team recreates the early success of the French by grabbing the second pistol round plus three. Struggling on the defence, the surplus slowly dwindled for Team EnVyUs, placing the team in quite a predicament. As time went by the score crept up to a worrying 14:13, this team with OpTic in the lead. An early exit was averted, however, as EnVyUs managed to pull through in the end after securing three consecutive rounds.

de_Nuke - 16:14 (4:11, 12:3)

A worrying start from OpTic followed by a spectacular performance on the defence to close out the series and retain their spot in the race. Pistol round #5 falls in favour of the local representatives, however momentum is not developed as the Frenchmen cut the streak at one, instead securing four to their own name. As rounds went by it was apparent that OpTic were not particularly comfortable with the map on the offense, snatching but an additional three rounds over it's remainder. Team EnVyUs rejoice as the team concludes the initial half with a 11:4 lead. Another pistol in favour of the Green Wall, this time followed up by some consecutive Ws to close the deficit to 7:11. The French offense was consistently shut down throughout the latter half, approaching the cut-off point at a dangerously fast rate. In what proved to be a monumental comeback, OpTic Gaming managed to accrue a whopping twelve rounds to three, knocking the Frenchmen out of the race at 16:14.

Sweden Ninjas in Pyjamas vs. Sweden GODSENT - 2-1 (16:3; 16:8)

de_Train - 16:3 (13:3; 4:0)

NiP started off strong, picking up sounds rounds before GODSENT could respond. Though Markus "pronax" Wallsten had a nice triple kill to deny a retake and allowed GODSENT their second point, it was all NiP coming up on the good side of the kill feed to seal the deal in their favour. Patrik "f0rest" Lindberg helped to smash GODSENT's dreams with a triple kill in the pistol, and then it was all NiP from there, taking the map swiftly in the first four rounds of the second half.

de_Cache - 16:8 (11:4; 5:4)

GODSENT was able to put up a bit more of a fight on Cache, but was ultimately unable to stop NiP's momentum. GODSENT was quicker to respond to NiP this time, getting a point before the sixth round, but Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund and Adam "friberg" Friberg were able to keep GODSENT from capitalizing on any momentum Andreas "znajder" Lindberg was working on providing. Though GODSENT was able to have a more solid second half, NiP had done enough damage in the first to take home Cache.

United States Cloud9 vs Brazil SK Gaming - 1-2 (14:16; 16:9; 8:16)

de_Inferno - 14:16 (9:6; 4:10)

SK won the first pistol round and went on to win the second before C9 answered with a round win of their own. Despite SK being able to take C9's AKs in the fourth round, C9 was still able to fight their way back to an even score in the sixth round. From there, Cloud9 took the next few rounds to make it 3:7, thanks in part to a 10th round quad-kill by Braxton "swag" Pierce. Though SK was able to finish out the half on a good note, grabbing two rounds in a row, Cloud9 was still winning by three at the end of the first half, 9:6. SK then won the pistol round and was on a roll, picking up eight rounds before C9 could answer in the second half. C9 forced SK into an echo shortly thereafter, however, and put themselves only a round behind SK, 13:14. Jake "Stewie2k" Yip was almost able to clutch C9's 14th point, but a quad kill from Fernando "fer" Alvarenga that opened the door for SK to win the map, 14:16.

de_Train - 16:9 (9:6; 7:3)

Cloud9 won the pistol round and were then able to take an early lead, only for SK to take the sixth round. Cloud9 wasn't done, however, thanks to a brilliant triple kill from Stewie2k to help keep C9 ahead by three throughout most of the first half. Unlike the last map, C9 was able to keep their lead, and swag was able to shut down Marcelo "coldzera" David's ninja diffuse in the final round of the map to take Train for his team, 16:9.

de_Mirage - 8:16 (6:9; 2:7)

SK was able to get a head start on the map thanks to a fer's clutch triple kill early on, then keep it thanks to Joao "felps" Vasconsellos' nice backstab-frag combo in the 11th round. SK was able to keep their lead through the half, though Cloud9's Stewie2k tried everything he could to stop it, including a few multi-kill rounds that should have pulled the rounds in their favour, but unfortunately didn't. In the end, SK was able to hold off Cloud9 long enough to get to their 16th round win, taking the map and match.

Russia Gambit Esports vs United States Team Liquid - 2-0 (16:1; 19:17)

de_Train - 16:1 (14:1; 2:0)

Gambit started off with an eight-round-win streak before Liquid could get one. With Liquid very low on funds, the Americans had to echo on Round 11, which didn't work out in Liquid's favour. Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski had a double kill to give Liquid their one point in the first half in the ninth round, but after that it was all Gambit. The second half didn't start out well, either, with Nick "nitr0" Cannella team killing Russel "twistzz" Van Dulken for the first kill of the second half. After that, Gambit only needed one more round to close out the map, which they did easily.

de_Nuke - 19:17 (7:8, 8:7; 4:2)

The first part of Nuke went the exact opposite of how Train went, with Liquid starting a strong run against Gambit and grabbing a four-round lead. Gambit was quick to bounce back, though, and a nice grenade from Daniil "Zeus" Teslenko at the start of the 11th round signalled the start of Gambit's push to take control of the map. By the end of the first map, Liquid had barely held onto their lead, only ahead by one round. Liquid tried to pull away early second half, but Gambit caught up with them relatively quickly, denying a ninja defuse attempt and tying up the map in Round 22. For the first time in the map, Gambit had the lead, though Liquid was quickly able to pull the momentum back and tie it up. The two ended up trading rounds to pull the match into Overtime, playing it out fully until Zeus' triple kill brought Gambit the win.
