Intel Extreme Masters Sydney 2017 - Chiefs through to LAN finals

The Australian roster of Chiefs has surpassed Tainted Minds in the grand final of the ANZ Closed Qualifier for IEM Sydney 2017, securing a placement at the LAN finals.

Chiefs have secured a placement in the LAN finals of IEM Sydney 2017 following their victory against fellow compatriots, Tainted Minds. The best-of-three series saw only two maps, both of which were secured by The Chiefs in convincing fashion. With this victory the Australian side has secured the final, eighth spot at the LAN finals that will be held at the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydey, Australia this May. Said teams will battle it out for the equivalent of ~$200,000 in prize money.

The first map, de_Cobblestone saw a lop-sided initial half, where it seemed that Chiefs would close it out in brisk manner. A 3:12 halftime finish was followed by a strong CT side from Tainted Minds, however the performance was insufficient, as the deficit accrued previously was too heavy a weight to bear for the Australian side, conceding the map to Chiefs at 12:16. Next up was de_Nuke, and on this occasion the Chiefs did manage to close shop in swift manner, as a 10:5 initial half was quickly followed by a 6:0 second half, closing out the series with a 2-0 map sweep.
