India to host $300,000 CS:GO event

The founder of Route Mobile, Rajdip Gupta has announced plans to host a $300,000 international CS:GO tournament in India.

In a recent article from sportskeeda.com, it was reported that India will be hosting a CS:GO tournament later this year featuring a $300,000 - $500,000 prize pool. COBX Gaming, an organisation recently incorporated and backed by one of the leading Indian mobile service providers Route Mobile, outlined that the main goal is to create a consistent domestic league in India to ensure the development of the local eSports scene, as well as attract international attention to the developing industry. The aforementioned league will culminate in LAN finals, where international teams will be invited to participate.

Founder of Route Mobile, Rajdip Gupta expressed the following:

The domestic league will culminate in a LAN final, where we are planning on calling international teams. The LAN finals will have international teams from 16 different countries, and we will target a prize pool of $300,000 – $500,000, which will send a signal to the foreign competitors of how serious we are with our involvement.

If you see our talent in games such as CS GO and Dota 2, they are not bad, the major problem is that they don’t get that exposure. Our goal is to make India a fixed destination on the international e-sports calendar. So young teams are exposed to experienced players, that is the only way we can have teams playing at majors and high level tournaments across the world.

As outlined above, COBX Gaming are looking to create a domestic online league, scheduled to start in April 2017, where local professional and semi-professional local teams will face one another. More prominent teams will receive a direct invite to the final rounds, whilst the open qualifier will offer up-and-coming teams a chance to secure a placement in the finals. Following the conclusion of the league, one that will offer in excess of $15,000 in prize money, two local teams will be eligible to participate at the LAN finals, joining fourteen invited teams from across the world.

Essentially this will produce an atmosphere where less experienced teams will be able to pitch themselves against the high rollers in a bid to prove their capabilities as a team, as well as gaining much needed experience.
