ECS Season 3 - Virtus.pro secure placement

Virtus.pro overcome Space Soldiers in a best-of-five series to secure the second ECS Season 3 slot.

Poland Virtus.pro advance to the Europe League of ECS Season 3 after defeating Turkey Space Soldiers. The Poles had to work for their spot in the league, with a total of four maps played out, two of which went into overtime. Ultimately Virtus.pro managed to secure a 3-1 map score, propelling the team back into the league.

With Virtus.pro finalising the list of participants for the Esports Championship Series Season 3 - Europe League, following is a table containing all ten teams:

Denmark AstralisSweden GODSENT
Europe Team DignitasEurope Mousesports
France Team EnVyUsSweden Ninjas in Pyjamas
Europe FaZe ClanSweden Fnatic
France G2 EsportsPoland Virtus.pro

For those that missed the matches, below you will find a recap for each of the maps played:

de_Train - 19-17 (2-13; 13-2; 4-2)

The first map of the series saw a poor start from the favourite, Virtus.pro. Having kicked off on the T side, the Poles were unable to produce anything resembling a fight, conceding an astonishing eleven round deficit to the Turkish side of Space Soldiers. Working against such a disadvantage would require a train full of experience, something that Virtus.pro indeed had under their sleeve. After a disappointing 2-13 initial half, the plow re-aligned and started accruing rounds in their favour. Not only did the Poles manage to show a great CT side on the map, they pressed on to secure a mirror score on the latter half, pushing the first map into overtime. In said overtime the Poles secured the majority of the rounds, closing out the series with a 4-2 overtime score, consequently a 19-17 map score.

de_Inferno - 8-16 (4-11; 4-5)

Without hesitation Space Soldiers stormed onto de_Inferno with something that may only be described as an amazing performance. The Turks kicked off on the T side of the map, where they were able to secure quite the initial lead. With the defence unable to react appropriately, Space Soldiers managed to storm sites and out-aim the Poles consistently, producing an 11-4 half in favour of the Turks. The conclusion of the map wasn't far away, as Virtus.pro were able to secure but four rounds on their T side. Space Soldiers exploited the weakness of the Polish powerhouse and ran away with the second map at 16-8, the highest score differential of all maps played.

de_Overpass - 19-15 (8-7; 7-8; 4-0)

After a painful loss, the Poles seemed to have fully awoken. It was their time to shine and there was no better time to do so than on de_Overpass. The initial half saw Virtus.pro produce a decent T side, where the team ran away with a single round surplus at half time. After switching, the Turks amassed no less a surplus, leading to a 15-15 stalemate and hence overtime. Unfortunately for Space Soldiers, a stellar performance from Virtus.pro meant a 4-0 overtime score and subsequently an additional digit in the map score for the Poles.

de_Mirage - 16-13 (9-6; 7-7)

The final map of the series, de_Mirage, saw a close but convincing performance from the Poles, as on this occasion they were able to deal with their opponents prior to entering overtime. The team started on the T side of affairs, grabbing quite a few rounds before half time. Despite their best attempts on the defence, the Turks allow the initial half to slip at a 6-9 score in favour of their opponents. After switching sides, both teams managed to secure seven rounds each, unfortunately for the Turks this was all the Poles needed to secure their spot in the ECS Season 3 Europe League. Virtus.pro close out at 16-13 on de_Mirage and a 3-1 series score.
