ELEAGUE Season 2 - Astralis and OpTic Gaming to Grand Final

Astralis and OpTic Gaming have secured the two final spots of the tournament, following their victories over SK Gaming and FaZe Clan respectively.

The semi-finals of ELEAGUE Season 2 took place last night, where the Danish roster of Astralis and the North American mix of OpTic Gaming superseded their opponents in each of the match-ups. Astralis were able to outperform tournament favourites, SK Gaming in two consecutive maps, whilst OpTic Gaming demonstrated a fantastic performance, whereby they upset the European mix of FaZe Clan, a team considered to be one of the strongest contenders for first place at the tournament.

Below we present you a brief recap of the two series, both of which were boiled down to but two maps each:

ELEAGUE Season 2 - Semi-final #1
Denmark Astralis
 vs. Brazil SK Gaming
Winner: Denmark Astralis
Maps: de_Overpass
- 7:8, 9:3 (16:11); de_Train - 12:3, 4:9 (16:12)
MVP: Denmark
Andreas "Xyp9x" Højsleth

Truly a clash of titans, this particular match-up promised to be much more than we actually saw. In what can only be described as a stellar performance, Astralis not only dispelled their semi-finals curse, but also dispelled SK Gaming's 17-0 de_Train winning spree, all the while securing a spot in the Grand final of the prestigious tournament.

The teams kicked off on de_Overpass, where neither demonstrated a particularly dominant performance. Astralis were on the aggressive, mounting various attempts at securing bomb plants as the Terrorists. There were fairly successful at doing so; however SK Gaming did not allow for anything spectacular via effective retakes and defences. The initial half ends at a tame 8:7 in favour of the Brazilian's CT side. After hopping over to the CT side, Astralis switched. Whether it was insane individual clutches or simply out-aiming their opponent, the Danes were on fire, which lead to frustration and demoralisation of SK Gaming. The domination continued throughout the second half, leading to a 9:3 half in favour of Astralis and consequently a 16:11 victory.

De_Train would usually be the map where SK Gaming reinstated their superiority, as prior to the end of the series the team sported an uncontested 17-0 winning streak on the map. Unfortunately for the Brazilians, this would not be the case for long. Astralis kick off on the CT side of Train, where they simply didn't allow any breathing space for SK Gaming. The Brazilians were out of luck each time they attempted to storm bombsites or prevent the CTs from defusing the bomb. Nothing was going their way in the first half, as the Danes secure a rather ridiculous 12:3 lead going into the second half. The roster of SK Gaming is no stranger to comeback situations, so the team set out to gradually bring themselves off the ground and back into the game. Rounds were slowly skewing towards the Brazilian side; however the initial deficit was simply too colossal to beat, bringing the tournament favourites to a defeat, as Astralis secure four rounds to close out the map at 16:12.

Astralis proceed to the Grand final of ELEAGUE Season 2 with high morale, whilst SK Gaming go back to the drawing board and assess the issues at hand.

ELEAGUE Season 2 - Semi-final #2
Canada
OpTic Gaming vs. Europe FaZe Clan
Winner: Canada OpTic Gaming
Maps: de_Train
- 12:3, 4:0 (16:3); de_Overpass - 10:5, 6:7 (16:12)
MVP: United States
Will "RUSH" Wierzba

Most would've thought FaZe Clan would have been a safe bet considering their recent performances; however this couldn't have been further from the case, as OpTic Gaming absolutely crush the team on the initial map, followed by a convincing victory on the latter.

De_Train was chosen as the first map for the two teams to butt heads on. OpTic Gaming kick off on the T side, where they absolutely decimate the European mix time after time. Seldom did FaZe Clan retaliate against the NA mix, leading to an extensive 12:3 first half lead for OpTic. Regarding Faze's round score, the three amassed in the first half were all she wrote, as OpTic pick up the pistol round on the CT side, followed by the subsequent three, culminating in an astonishing 16:3 performance from the North American mix.

Next up was de_Overpass, FaZe Clan's only chance at getting back into the groove of things. The European mix kicks off on the T side of the map, where they demonstrate a rather lacklustre performance, securing but five rounds by the end of the initial half. A lot of mistakes were made by the team, which lead to an increasingly dangerous situation, the cost of which would be elimination from the tournament. Swapping over to the CT side of the map didn't seem to help the nature of things, as the team had given up far too many rounds prior. OpTic Gaming secure the six rounds needed to cut the match at a 16:12 score line, securing a placement at the Grand final.

The North American mix joins Astralis in the Grand final of ELEAGUE Season 2 this evening to determine the stronger side, as well as the proprietor of an incredible $400,000 in prize money.
