Epicenter: Moscow - Team Dignitas secure first place

The Danish roster of Team Dignitas was able to overpower Virtus.pro in the Grand Final of Epicenter: Moscow, securing the Champions' title, along with $250,000 in prize money.

After a very successful run throughout the entirety of Epicenter: Moscow, Team Dignitas were able to defeat one of the most experienced teams in CS:GO. It all started off in the closed qualifiers, where the Danes managed to overcome fellow countrymen Astralis, followed by Sweden's GODSENT.

Having secured their slot, Team Dignitas proceeded to the group stage, pitted against Natus Vincere, G2 Esports and Ninjas in Pyjamas. The Danes landed third place with a single round surplus to their name, just about hanging in there. Next on their schedule was a Ro6 match against Fnatic, one that would determine which team would be facing home crowd favourites Natus Vincere in the semi-finals. Unfazed by the established teams, Dignitas rushed straight through both teams with confidence, taking away both Fnatic and Na'Vi with 2:1 maps scores.

Their final trial was to play against none other than Virtus.pro, a team that looked particularly scary after their performance in the group stage. The Danes kept a level head and methodically dismantled the Poles, leading to a spectacular conclusion to the grandiose tournament that was Epicenter: Moscow.

Below you will find a brief recap of the three maps that were played out yesterday evening.

Epicenter: Moscow - Grand Final

Denmark Team Dignitas vs. Poland Virtus.pro
WinnerDenmark Team Dignitas
Maps: de_Nuke, de_Cobblestone, de_Mirage - 4:11, 7:5 (11:16); 11:4, 5:1 (16:5); 13:2, 3:3 (16:5)
MVP: Denmark Emil "Magiskb0Y" Reif

Starting things off, Virtus.pro mount an assault on de_Nuke. The Poles' initial terrorist side was stellar, with consistent bomb plants and effective aim duels. It was clear that perhaps Team Dignitas weren't placing all their eggs in the Nuke basket, as Virtus.pro were seemingly unstoppable. The Polish roster produced a dominant first half where they manage to amass a respectable 11:4 lead on the T side. After switching sides, Team Dignitas woke up a tad, demonstrating the extent of their knowledge of the map. The team managed to accumulate a total of seven rounds; however this simply wasn't enough to compensate for the deficit of the first half - Virtus.pro walk away with de_Nuke on a 16:11 score line.

Up next we saw de_Cobblestone, a map that was truly a surprise in terms of its outcome. The Danes kick off on the T side, where they manage to serve Virtus.pro a dose of their own medicine. Dignitas mirror the Poles' score from the first half of Nuke, namely an 11:4 lead on the T side. The Poles had a hard time transferring onto the T side of the map, as their opponents seemed to have come prepared with all the answer to various advances. The Danes assumed positions creating an impenetrable wall, one Virtus.pro were simply not able to breach. The defence closes out the latter half with a 5:1 score, equalising the map lead that was previously in the hands of their opponents.

The deciding map of the series was de_Mirage. Dignitas kick off on the CT side, where the team is able to come up with some spectacular rounds. As time went by the Danes progressively furthered the lead, leaving the Poles in quite the predicament. Unfortunately for Virtus.pro the score line simply spiralled out of hand, culminating in a catastrophic 2:13 deficit, one that would prove to be the team's demise in the grand final. The second half was short-lived as Team Dignitas go on to secure the final three rounds needed to grant them the Champions' title.
