Details for WCA Americas

Details have emerged regarding the WCA 2016 America Qualifier, which will aim to find the two best teams in North and South America.

The WCA 2016 America Qualifier will begin its proceedings with an online open qualifier that will include teams from both North and South America. The online qualifier will consist of GSL-style groups leading up to a double-elimination bracket and is expected to commence on the 28th of October.

The 3rd - 6th place finishers from the qualifier will divvy up the ~$6,000 prize pool, while the 1st and 2nd place teams will pack their bags and head to São Paulo, Brazil, for the regional LAN qualifier on November 12th. There they will compete, along with two invited teams, for the lion’s share of the ~$26,000 prize pool and two spots in the main event, the WCA 2016 World Finals.

The prize pool for the LAN will be divided as follows:
 

  1. ~$15,000 (¥100,000) + World Finals LAN spot

  2. ~$7,500 (¥50,000) + World Finals LAN spot

  3. ~$3,000 (¥20,000)

  4. ~$1,500 (¥10,000)
     

The World Finals will take place in Yinchuan, China, in December and will sport a ~$208,000 prize pool. So far, only four of the ten spots at the World Finals have been claimed. The teams who have already made it through are as follows:
