Swiss Format coming to ESL One New York

ESL is bringing back a different format for ESL One New York.

ESL have just announced a different format for ESL One New York. The Swiss format is nothing new to ESL however, as it was introduced in CS:GO during the June ESL One Cologne Main Qualifier.

The Swiss system features five BO1 rounds with the first match-ups being pre-determined teams. Every match-up round after that will be chosen randomly between teams within the same pool that have not played each other yet. When the participants reach three wins, they automatically qualify for semi-finals. Should a team get three losses instead, they will be completely eliminated from the tournament.

In round four, if one team gets a 1-2 score, they will have to go against a team from a pool above (2-1). This is due to the odd number of teams in the two tournament pools.

ESL have also announced that three of the eight teams will be SK Gaming, G2, and Team Liquid. The first day of the event will be behind closed doors, and the teams from there will go to the Barclays Center stage on Saturday and Sunday.
