Immortals were crowned champions of DreamHack Summer 2016 and received a prize of $50,000 after beating Ninjas in Pyjamas in the Grand Finals.

Sweden Godsent v. Brazil Immortals 6:9, 5:7 (11:16) 10:5, 6:7 (16:12) 6:9, 2:7 (8:16)
Winner: Brazil Immortals 2-1
Maps: de_Cache, de_Mirage, de_Train
MVP: Brazil Gustavo "SHOOWTiME" Gonçalves

Immortals started very strong on their CT side on their map pick, Cache, picking up the first six rounds of the map before Godsent finally got on the board. Neither team took overwhelming control of the map and the half ended reasonable for both teams, 9-6 in favor of the Brazilian squad.

Despite winning their T side pistol, Immortals were unable to pull away from the Swedish side who were invogorated by a 1v2 clutch from Jonas "Lekr0" Olofsson. Godsent began to put together a series of rounds, decreasing the defecit to 11-12 before Immortals regained their momentum and finally closed out the map 16-11.

Godsent’s chance to tie the series came on their map pick, Mirage, and they won the very important T side pistol and the following anti ecos. Immortals were able to win the first gun round on the fourth round, but Godsent stayed in control and put up an impressive T half 10-5.

Immortals attempted started their comback attempt on T side with a strong A site hit, which was finished off by a double knife kill on top of the bomb in smoke by Gustavo "SHOOWTiME" Gonçalves.

The Brazilians continued by winning the following two anti-ecos but then, armed with rifles and full grenades, Godsent were able to reverse the momentum of the match and close out their map pick 16-12.

The semifinal would be decided by vetoes, which left de_Train as the third map. Immortals started impressively, winning the pistol round on CT and the first next anti-eco. Godsent bought up AKs third round and managed to pick up a round, but their economy was left in pieces after Immortals responded for a score of 3-1. Mathias "pauf" Köhler and Simon "twist" Eliasson managed to pull off a 2v4 to keep the game within reach and Godsent managed to tie the score at 4-4. Immortals recovered and were able to put up a decent 9-6 scoreline for their CT half.

The Brazilians’ conviction was clear starting their T side and after winning the first four rounds, the Grand Final was in reach. Godsent were unable to mount a comeback and the Brazilians advanced with a score of 16-8 on Train.

Denmark Astralis v. Sweden Ninjas in Pyjamas 7:8, 5:8 (12:16) 10:5, 6:5 (16:10) 7:8, 7:8 (14:16)
Winner: Sweden NiP 2-1
Maps: de_Cache, de_Overpass, de_Cobblestone
MVP: Denmark Markus “Kjaerbye” Kjærbye

The second semifinal, which coincidentally had the exact same three maps as the first semifinal, began with Astralis on the CT side of NiP’s pick, Cache. Astralis managed to pick up the first round but a strong force buy from NiP swung momentum early and they stormed their way to a 6-1 lead on T. Astralis regrouped and put four rounds in a row, forcing a tactial timeout from the Swedes. Neither team could control the rest of the half and it ended 8-7 for NiP.

NiP exploded on their CT half as well, with a clean 5v4 retake on A site. Their momentum built, with them driving to a lead of 14-7. Again, Astralis managed to group and create their spurt of momentum, and pulled back all the way to 12-14 before being shut down by a quad kill from Adam "friberg" Friberg. NiP closed out the map the following round 16-12.

Astralis came out with a huge start on their map pick, Overpass, picking up an early 5-0 lead. NiP managed to get themselves together but Astralis kept pushing and capitalized on a weak T economy to eventually close the half out 10-5 on their CT half. NiP began to close Astralis’ lead on CT, but a crucial over rotation in the 18th round opened up the floodgates for Astralis’ T side attacks and they were able to close the map out with relatively little issues 16-10.

NiP was in the driving seat for the early part of their CT half on Cobblestone, going up 7-0 before Astralis called a timeout and rethought their attack. Astralis was able to pick up the following eight rounds to keep the game within reach with a scoreline of 7-8.

Astralis continued their momentum into the second half, picking up the first six rounds of their own CT half before NiP called a timeout and conjured up a crazy comeback, picking up eight of the last nine rounds, after losing fourteen in a row, to win the map and the series 16-14 and to face Immortals in the Grand final.

Brazil Immortals v. Sweden Ninjas in Pyjamas 9:6, 7:4 (16:10) 12:3, 4:10 (16:13)
Winner: Brazil Immortals 2-0
Maps: de_Cache, de_Mirage
MVP: Brazil Joao "felps" Vasconcellos

NiP appeared to start strong on their T side pistol, getting themselves in a 4v2 post plant situation before a 2v4 retake from Immortals with a 1v2 clutch from Gustavo "SHOOWTiME" Gonçalves gave the Brazilians the early economical and morale advantage. NiP were able to pick up a few rounds in the first half due to individual plays, but they were unable to string together a few rounds and found themselves in a 4-8 defecit before salvaging the half for a 6-9 score on T side.

Immortals took pistol on their T half as well, despite a huge double kill from Richard “Xizt” Landström to reduce Immortals’ 4v2 to a 2v2. Immortals continued pushing relenetlessly towards map point, winning both anti-ecos and the first gun round, and another eco. NiP, led by Patrik “f0rest” Lindberg, finally replied to leave the score at 14-10 for Immortals. Immortals finally managed to pick up their fifteenth round off of a patient B site take after an early mistake from f0rest and then their sixteenth with an A split started by a jumping headshot Ricardo “boltz” Prass in mid on Xizt.

Immortals started their T side on Mirage, their map pick, with a B rush and they were able to hold their ground to prevent a 2v2 retake. Despite two early deagle headshots from Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund and friberg on the second round, Immortals were able to win the following two eco rounds without any guns saved by the CTs. A huge 2v2 retake by Xizt and Jacob "pyth" Mourujärvi prevent Immortals from running away with the half. Two huge entries by Lucas "lucas" Teles on the A site forced the CTs to take a double eco and gave Immortals a huge advantage for the half. NiP managed to scrape back one gun round but then a series of mistakes in a 5v3 situation for NiP allowed Immortals to reset their economy once again. lucas continued destroying NiP’s economy with multiple double entry kills and Immortals closed out the half 12-3 on T.

Immortals continued their momentum into the CT half and won the pistol, but a desperate force buy from NiP culminated with a 2v2 post plant situation with all four players on low hp and a 1v1 clutch from f0rest. The nebulous “NiP magic” began to materialize as NiP mounted a comeback up to 9-13, before Immortals paused their momentum with a tactical pause. However, a huge triple kill from f0rest prevented Immortals from getting back into the game with the following eco round. Immortals finally responded with two of their own rounds to get to 14-11, but NiP kept fighting to 13-14. The magic ran out and Immortals were able to win a save round, clinching the map 16-13 to close out the series and be crowned the Champions of DreamHack Summer 2016.

NiP will walk away from the tournament as runners-up with a $20,000 prize and Immortals will take the championship and $50,000 back to Brazil.
