StarLadder i-League Invitational - Day 2 recap

Day two of the StarLadder i-League Invitational concluded yesterday, we present our concise recap of the matches that took place over the course of the day.

A rather short second day with all matches entertaining only two maps, nevertheless intriguing.

Ukraine Natus Vincere vs. Europe HellRaisers - 8:7, 8:1 (16:8); 5:10, 11:3 (16:13)
Winner: Ukraine Natus Vincere - 2:0
Maps: de_Overpass, de_Mirage
MVP: Russia Denis "seized" Kostin

Na'Vi kick off the day on de_Overpass' T side, showing a level performance, nothing out of the blue. They go pretty much equal with the European mix of HellRaisers, closing the first half at 8:7, with a single round lead. After this Na'Vi shifted gears and sprinted for the finish line. Eight rounds to HR's single meant a 16:8 close. Next was de_Mirage, a bit closer this time for HellRaisers. It all started on a positive note for HR, with a 10:5 first CT half. Na'Vi weren't having it and kicked up up another notch, thrashing their opponents eleven rounds to three, closing the series on a 16:13 note.

Ukraine Natus Vincere vs. Sweden GODSENT - 6:9, 10:3 (16:12); 10:5, 6:9 (16:14)
Winner: Ukraine Natus Vincere - 2:0
Maps: de_Cobblestone, de_Mirage
MVP: Slovakia Ladislav "GuardiaN" Kovács

After a small break between matches, Na'Vi were back in action, this time against the Swedish GODSENT. A rather shaky start, as the Ukrainians weren't able to effectively repel T-side advances from the Swedes. A rough start for Na'Vi as the team sit at a half time deficit of 6:9. Didn't really matter, apparently Cobblstone is T-sided anyway - Natus Vincere make GODSENT questions their capabilites as the team decimates their T side with a 10:3 round score and 16:12 finish on de_Cobblestone. Up next was de_Cache, where Na'Vi get off on the right leg, securing a very respectable 10:5 CT side start. GODSENT did not make this win for the Ukrainian roster easy, as the team amassed round after round, causing a very tight score line. In the end Na'Vi manage to just about pull it off without letting overtime sink in, cleaning out the Swedes 16:14.

Poland Virtus.Pro vs. Poland Dobry & Gaming - 5:10, 11:1 (16:11); 8:7, 8:5 (16:12)
Winner: Poland Virtus.Pro - 2:0
Maps: de_Mirage, de_Dust2
MVP: Poland Janusz "Snax" Pogorzelski

The final match of the day, where two Polish teams had a score to settle. Virtus.Pro had a difficult start on one of their most celebrated maps, de_Mirage. The Bears are very well-known for a super aggressive and rather successful T-side, however this was not the case in this situation. D&G fended off their countrymen, allowing the team a 10:5 lead going into the second half. What they lacked on the T side, they made up for on the CT side, as Virtus.Pro simply demolished their opponents eleven rounds to one, cutting the match at 16:11. Next was de_Dust2, the shooting gallery map. The first half both teams went shoulder to shoulder, rarely making significant mistakes and recouping them as soon as they were made. This lead to an 8:7 stalemate at half time, with V.P sporting the slight advantage. The second half saw a more dominant performance from Virtus.Pro, where the team was able to effectively hold, retake and defend bomb sites from advancements. This lead to a 16:12 finish and culmination of day two at the StarLadder i-League Invitational.
