In just under two days, IEM Gamescom will begin featuring a unique "four-lives" format. For your convience, we've created a guide with everything to know about the upcoming $85,000 event.
Intel Extreme Masters Gamescom will have six teams gather in Cologne, Germany during the traditional Gamescom festival from August 5-8th for the first Intel Extreme Masters stop for CS:GO, which features a unique "four-lives" format. Teams will be assigned four lives preceding the event's start and, with every loss, the team will lose a life. Because of this format, viewers will get to watch anywhere from 20-23 best-of-one matches before five teams are eliminated and a champion emerges.
Along with the interesting format, the winning team of each match will get to choose which two teams play in the next match, and, from there, the community decides on the map played between the two. The winning team will win the majority of the $85,000 prize pool, which creates a "winner-takes-all" format. The rest of the teams will divide the rest of the money as normal -- with less money being rewarded to the lower placing teams.
