Four weeks ago, the twelfth season of StarSeries was announced with an increased prize pool of $50,000 and a whole new format. This is a $15,000 increase from the last season, where $12,000 will be allocated for the travel support of the teams who qualify for the LAN finals. Additionally, they have decided to tweak the map pool, adding de_cobblestone while removing de_season. Today, they have released additional details about the new tournament format that will be implemented:

Instead of splitting teams into the two groups, the tournament organizers went for a different approach this time. A total of sixteen teams will be splitted among four groups in Stage One. This stage will be played in a best-of-three format and the top two teams of each group will qualify for the Stage Two.

Stage Two will feature two groups of four teams. The format will remain the same, a best-of-three series will be played and the top two teams of each group will qualify for LAN finals.

The third and fourth placed teams from Stage Two will move on to Playoffs, a single elimination bracket with four teams. The matches will be played in a best-of-three format with the winner moving on to Kiev.

The final online stage will be a last chance qualifier where the third placed teams from the Stage One and a three losers teams from Playoffs will meet each other in order to compete for the last spot in the LAN finals.

The LAN finals, which are planned to be held on February 20-22, will be held at the same venue as last season, CyberArena in Kiev, Ukraine.
