The first round of Dreamhack Winter EU qualifiers is over and Team LDLC, Planetkey Dynamics, ESC Gaming and Penta Sports are the four teams that secured a spot in the main event which is gonna be held on November 27-29. The fifth team will be determined today.
The first round of Dreamhack Winter EU qualifiers concluded last night and four squads out of the sixteen participants managed to grab a spot in the upcoming main event in Jönköping.
Team LDLC was paired with AliGon in round one, with the French team coming on the top without much hassle with 2-0 score. In the next round they had to fight the new myXMG squad, and shoxie and co. emerged victorious once more.
Planetkey Dynamics won the German duel in round one against mousesports very convincigly with 2-0, and proceeded to face Flip.Sid3 Tactics, the team who have eliminated 3DMAX in the first round. The Swedish team played Robin "robiin" Sjögren, who has a CS VAC ban on record so he was unable to participate in this qualifier. Taking advantage of the absense, Planetkey took down the Swedes with a solid 2-0 score andsecured a ticket to Jönköping.
The Polish team, ESC Gaming, grabbed the third spot in the main event. The Poles defeated the recently changed CPH Wolves line-up with 2-0 and advanced to fight with Team Alternate. The Germans did showed little resistance and ESC scored 2-0 with ease.
The fourth and final team to qualify yesterday is German as well - Penta Sports. In round one they overran the Spanish roster, x6tence, with 2-0, and went on to face one of the absolute favorites (besides LDLC) of the competition, HellRaisers. However, the CIS team was unable to find a way to contain the Germans' momentum, and they were utterly defeated with 2-0.
The fifth challenger will be European and will be determinated tonight through a four-team single elimination bracket. The teams that lost in the second round of last night's qualifiers have received a second chance to try and grab a spot in DH Winter main event. The pairs of the semi-finals are myXMG vs Flip.Sid3 Tactics and HellRaisers vs Team Alternate. Both matches are scheduled to start at 19.00 CEST and will be played in best-of-three format. Only the winner of this 'mini bracket' will be going to Jönköping.
