Electronic Sports World Cup to have the same map pool as ESL Cologne

The map pool has been announced for the upcoming and much anticipated Electronic Sports World Cup (ESWC) 2014. It should be noted that it bears a striking familiarity to Valve's ESL Cologne map pool.

The ESL Cologne map pool brought up a lot of controversy, with many claiming that the replacement of de_train with de_overpass and de_cobblestone was just an excuse for Valve to promote the active duty maps. Such maps are generally thought by the community to be suited for casual playing and not for the competitive scene. Nonetheless, it appears that the map selection is catching on, with the ESWC to adopt it as well. Keep in mind that while ESL Cologne was partially funded by Valve, ESWC is not.

The map pools will be played by both the male and female CS:GO teams on October 29th to November 2nd at the ESWC 2014 finals  in Paris, France.

The ESWC 2014 finals will now have the following map pool:

  1. de_nuke
  2. de_dust2
  3. de_inferno
  4. de_mirage
  5. de_cache
  6. de_cobblestone
  7. de_overpass

However, the current ESWC 2014 qualifiers will keep the old map pool, with the following maps:

  1. de_nuke
  2. de_dust2
  3. de_inferno
  4. de_mirage
  5. de_cache
  6. de_train
